The School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR) at QMUL is one of UK’s leading Politics and IR departments. The School has an excellent track record in research. It is in the UK’s top 15 for the excellence of its published work and top twenty for research intensity. 74% of its research was considered world leading and internationally excellent in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF).
The School of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary has a vibrant PhD student community and we welcome applications in all fields of politics and international relations where we can offer expert supervision. Student numbers have increased significantly in the past ten years and the school currently hosts over 40 full- and part-time PhD students.
A number of funding streams are available for the School’s MRes and PhD programmes in Politics and International Relations:
- Queen Mary University of London is a partner institution in one of the largest Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Doctoral Training Partnerships in the country. The London Interdisciplinary Social Science (LISS) partnership, with King’s College London and Imperial College, provides over 50 funded ESRC studentships a year across a range of interdisciplinary areas to applicants meeting the ESRC eligibility criteria.
